First Show of 2018 – Vonnegut’s PLAYER PIANO

Thursday, January 4th, 2018

Our first show of 2018 is inspired by Kurt Vonnegut’s PLAYER PIANO.BBCplayerpiano.copy   If you don’t know us, you may not know that we have a thing for Vonnegut.  We don’t go on and on about it, but we do start each year with new songs inspired by one of his works.  It’s a long story that begins in 2009, but why think about that year, when we have a brand new one right here.  2018.  It presents to us that thing we’re obsessed with–the glorious unknown, which is also the reason we write songs about books.  And the reason we wake up each day.  To find out what happens.

Come join us January 30th at new, Brooklyn venue MIRROR IN THE WOODS.  We have some favorite contributors performing as well as some who are brand new to Bushwick Book Club.  We promise literature inspired songs accompanied by an original Vonnegut cocktail from BBC mixologists — Deb and Jason.  There may still be a book-inspired SNACK ARTIST in the wings.  We’ll keep you posted.  However, this we can be sure of — performances by:

ELLIA BISKER – Charming Disaster, Sweet Soubrette
TIMOTHY DARK – timothydark.net
STORM GARNER – stormgarner.com
SUSAN HWANG – Lusterlit, susanhwanglalala.com
DAWN KANG

Hello again, goodbye.. 2016

Friday, December 9th, 2016

We’re letting go by playing it again and hearing something new.  We’re taking the spark of creations from this year and seeing how we can further it now, how they want to take shape now and what else of ourselves comes through the songs now.  We’re building now out of nothing and out of everything we got.  Come celebrate with us at the marvelous Issyra Gallery.  You’ll be immersed in an environment built from the hands, spirit and vision of artist, Issa Sow, plus the literature-inspired revelry of yours truly, Bushwick Book Club.  Plus, someone is making beef bourguignon.

Hello, Nyack. A brand new Book Club is born!

Tuesday, January 14th, 2014

Singer/songwriter/performance artist/busker Joe Crow Ryan is moving to Nyack, NY.  With his arrival there, he is starting the brand new Nyack, NY chapter of The Bushwick Book Club.  Their first show coincides with our 5th anniversary show in Bushwick, so January 22nd we’ll be celebrating both how old and how new we are!

Bushwick Book Club Nyack will be at Olive’s–a great local bar that not only has songs about books, but their own house potato chips.  Handmade potato chips are an obscenely well-matched snack food for literature-inspired music (wings and calamari are not too shabby either).

January 22nd – BBC Nyack, first show!
