September, 14th, 8pm - Join us at the venerable, delicious, creative hotbed known as SUPERFINE for our presentation of new music and performance inspired by Betty Smith’s classic, A TREE GROWS IN BROOKLYN.  It’s an Official Brooklyn Book Festival Bookend Event!

Local songwriters, musicians, poets, dancers and creative daredevils of all mediums come together to present their creative responses to A TREE GROWS IN BROOKLYN by Betty Smith.

First show of 2014 – Welcome to the Monkey House

Our first show of 2014 is also our FIFTH ANNIVERSARY.  Five years of songs about books and only more to come.

So far, we have Phoebe Kreutz (who also played the very first BBC show in January of 2009), Susan Hwang, Mia Pixley, Phil Andrews, KEN SOUTH ROCK (Susan’s favorite rock band–half Ken Minami from Japan, and half Adam Amram from Bushwick) and Jessie Kilguss.  More players to be announced soon!

Novel Songs: an evening of readings and new music with authors Christopher Castellani and Douglas Trevor, featuring the Bushwick Book ClubThe Bushwick Book Club features the delirious talents of local songwriters who plumb the depths and scrape the ends of chosen literary gems to create that rare and beautiful thing – a new song. The group performs monthly in NYC and Brooklyn, and by special request will join us at Cornelia Street Café on November 21.
